I already pay checkoff, why do I need to join IPPA?
• Checkoff funds can only be used to develop and carry out promotion, education, and research programs.
• According to the Pork Act, checkoff funds CAN NOT be used on legislative activities on state or national issues.
• Producers of all sizes and types continue to tell us that their number one need and concern is that someone is addressing the regulatory and policy issues that are facing the industry. The IPPA state membership program will be solely for non-checkoff programs and activities such as working on legislative and regulatory issues.
• Because you don’t have time to constantly monitor legislation in Springfield and Washington, D.C. affecting the pork industry, or meet with government agencies concerning regulations, or defend the pork industry against activists groups.
• Because you can focus on producing pork, while IPPA is busy lobbying, testifying, and acting upon your behalf to help keep you in business.
• To be involved in this professional organization which provides you the mechanism to work collectively with other producers and achieve what you could not accomplish yourself.
• Because you need an organization to support, promote, and represent your business on important issues affecting your future survival and profitability.
• Because there are fewer producers involved in pork production and this requires us to have a stronger unified voice and a greater need to work through the IPPA to remain viable and profitable in the future.
• To help you face the increasing number of environmental issues and regulations such as the CAFO regulations.
